A Sense of Belonging

written by Darlene Kinchen December 12, 2017

Have you ever wondered why gangs are so attractive to youth and have such an influence on them?

One reason is that most of these young people are looking for a sense of belonging. They are looking for a family. And while they may not be able to find it in their own home, they can find it in the gang. But is that really love? Does true love beat you before accepting you? Does true love have violence and other illegal activities as its foundation?

God places the solitary in families and gives the desolate a home . . . —Psalm 68:6, AMPC

We must give our children a solid foundation of love. If they doubt our love, they will think, “What’s the point?” and look for it somewhere else. This is not the kind of relationship that builds strong character or trust or fosters a sense of belonging.

Parents, do your children feel your love? When they are hurting, frightened, challenged, lonely, pressured, or confused, do they seek refuge in the comfort of your love, your embrace? Do they know they can talk to you about anything? Do you spend enough time with your children? Do you express an interest in their lives and what is most important to them?

God is Jehovah Nissi, our Banner of love, and He covers, guards, and guides us with His never-changing love. It is under His banner of love that we can seek refuge—safety from harm and the onslaught of spiritual attacks. We, as parents, must offer this same kind of comfort and defense for our children.

We must learn from our Father in Heaven. We must make the house a home where they know they belong and want to belong!

Abba, thank you for loving us and calling us your children. Thank you, Jehovah Nissi, for covering us, protecting us, loving us. Teach us how to be Kingdom parents. Teach us how to love, protect, and cover our children. We desire to make our house a home of peace and love. Teach us how to develop and a solid foundation of love where we raise up strong and secure Kingdom children. In the Name of Jesus, we pray and thank You. Amen.

A fascinating discussion is definitely worth comment. I believe that you should publish more on this subject, it may not be a taboo matter but typically people do not discuss such topics. To the next! All the best!! Hillary Corny Micheil
